Job Description

The Procurement Manager is tasked with designing, implementing, and enforcing a centralised sourcing and purchasing strategy across the entire A & I Care Home. Your primary objective is to leverage the group’s collective purchasing power to negotiate high-value corporate contracts that reduce operational expenditures while strictly maintaining or improving the quality of materials and services provided to our residents.Key responsibilities include:

  • Category Management: Define and execute end-to-end category strategies for critical care home expenditures, including clinical medical supplies, PPE, catering provisions, linen/laundry services, utilities, and facilities maintenance (HVAC, fire safety).
  • Vendor Selection & Tendering: Lead comprehensive tendering processes (RFIs/RFPs), evaluate commercial bids, conduct supplier financial stability checks, and onboard strategic supply partners.
  • Contract Negotiation & SLA Enforcement: Draft, negotiate, and execute rigorous corporate supply agreements. Establish, monitor, and enforce strict Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with vendors.
  • Supply Chain Risk Mitigation: Constantly evaluate global supply chain vulnerabilities, implement ethical sourcing frameworks, and establish robust secondary sourcing pipelines to prevent shortages of critical clinical materials.
  • System Optimisation: Oversee and continually optimise the group’s e-procurement software platforms, ensuring seamless inventory tracking and purchase order workflows at the home level.

Person Specification

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of dedicated experience as a buyer or procurement manager, managing an annual spend portfolio. Direct healthcare sector experience is preferred.
  • Qualifications: Full corporate membership in the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (MCIPS designation is highly preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Good in contract drafting capabilities, advanced commercial negotiation training, and deep experience utilising enterprise SRM/e-procurement software.
  • Behavioural Traits: Ruthlessly commercial mindset, exceptional persuasion and negotiation skills, analytical problem-solving, and a collaborative approach to internal stakeholder management.
